Stacking the Shelves [3]

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme, hosted by Tynga's Reviews, and is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual.

Since I didn't post an entry last week, today's StS includes books (physical and virtual) I purchased and/or availed of for the past two weeks.

Last week, I couldn't stop myself from visiting the local secondhand bookstore and bought these babies...

I was surprised to find 3 books from a series, (it's rare to find more two books in a series, let alone 3 or more), apparently there's more to the series but these are all that I could find. So all in all I got the first 3 books in the Dead Is series by Marlene Perez and The Lion Tamer's Daughter by Peter Dickinson. I think they're pretty short and easy to read, which I will do in the next month or so. Hopefully.

Welcome to Nightshade, California—a small town full of secrets. It’s home to the pyschic Giordano sisters, who have a way of getting mixed up in mysteries. During their investigations, they run across everything from pom-pom-shaking vampires to shape-shifting boyfriends to a clue-spewing jukebox. With their psychic powers and some sisterly support, they can crack any case!

Teenage girls are being mysteriously attacked all over town, including at Nightshade High School, where Daisy Giordano is a junior. When Daisy discovers that a vampire may be the culprit, she can’t help but suspect head cheerleader Samantha Devereaux, who returned from summer break with a new “look.” Samantha appears a little . . . well, dead, and all the most popular kids at school are copying her style.

Is looking dead just another fashion trend for Samantha, or is there something more sinister going on? To find out, Daisy joins the cheerleading squad.

A creepy, campy new mystery series.

Welcome to Nightshade, California—a small town full of secrets. It’s home to the psychic Giordano sisters, who have a way of getting mixed up in mysteries. During their investigations, they run across everything from pom-pom- shaking vampires to shape-shifting boyfriends to a clue-spewing jukebox. With their psychic powers and some sisterly support, they can crack any case!

There’s a gorgeous new guy at Nightshade High: Duke Sherrad, a fortune-teller claiming to have descended from Gypsies. Even though she’s psychic herself, Daisy is skeptical of Duke’s powers. But when a teacher who was the subject of one of his predictions ends up dead, she begins to wonder if Duke is the real deal after all. Maybe if Daisy can track down the teacher’s killer, she can find out the truth. The only trouble is, all signs point to the murderer being of the furry persuasion. Is Daisy any match for a werewolf? Maybe she is . . . in more ways than she bargained for!

Something very strange starts happening in Nightshade the summer that the eldest Giordano sister, Rose, gets a job working at Dr. Franken's research laboratory. People are starting to see double. Doppelgängers of Nightshade residents are popping up all over town. Daisy, Rose and Poppy think it's a coincidence, until the rumors start that their father, who disappeared several years ago, has been spotted in town. Meanwhile, Daisy's beau, Ryan is spending all of his time training for football, and like the other guys on the team, he's grown enormous almost overnight. Samantha Devereux's boyfriend's neck has doubled in size since school ended. Could the football players be resorting to extreme measures to win? Between summer jobs, sugar rushes, and beach parties, the Giordano girls get to the bottom of these mysteries and more.

Melly and Melanie are mirror images of each other. Are they twins separated at birth? Or is something more sinister afoot? It's a race against time and destiny to discover the truth, for if the two meet before the allotted time, who knows what their fate might be?

"Do you know what a doppelganger is? We did a play about one four years ago... the hero had this double who seemed to be some kind of fiend, who stalked him, and if ever they came face to face the hero was going to die ... I know it sounds stupid as soon as you say it, but..."

Yesterday, I made another impulse buy from the secondhand bookstore. I didn't really plan on purchasing anything, I was just browsing, checking to see if they have new items. I found this copy of The Magician's Nephew, Book 1 in the Chronicles of Narnia.

I wasn't going to buy it but seeing the dedication inside made me get it.

Oh Grace, why did you get rid of this book? Donated perhaps? But thank you, it is now mine. :)

As usual, I clicked a link for a free Kindle book and ended up availing of a TON of free Kindle books. Here's a linked list, be sure to check them out too. :)

A couple of weeks back, I was part of Savage tour and author Willow Rose listed one of her novels for free in Amazon. Of course, I availed of it. ;)

Title: Beyond (Afterlife, Book 1)

Meghan is 16 when she dies.

She wakes up on a flying steamboat on her way to a school run by Angels in a white marble castle. On the boat she meets Mick who has been dead for more than a hundred years but still looks like a teenager. He helps her past the difficult beginning at the new school in a new world. One day some of Meghan's roommates find a mirror in the cellar of the school and they persuade her to go through it with them - well knowing it is strictly against the rules of the school. Meghan ends up back on earth where she meets Jason. But Jason is in danger and Meghan know something important. Something that is a matter of life and death. Soon she is forced to choose between the two worlds. The one she belongs to now and the one she left.

So many books to read, so little time. It's times like these that I wish Hermione's time-turner is real and that I have one so I can read all the books I want. What books did you stack on your self this week?

  2. You know, I've heard really good things about the Dead is series (I have no idea if that's really the series name, but it's what I'm going with haha). I always see them around and never grab them...I need to add them to my list. Happy reading and thanks for stopping by my blog :)
